The Pistol Movie
The Pistol Birth of a Legend
The Pete Maravich movie, The Pistol: The Birth of a Legend, is the uplifting story of a scrawny eighth grade boy whose stunning basketball skills earn him a spot on the high school team! Unfortunately for young Pete Maravich (Adam Guier), his style of "showtime" basketball is way ahead of its time, making him the target of ridicule and socially separates him from his teammates. Against all odds, Pete perseveres with the constant encouragement of his mentor and father and the love of his mother.

From the life of Pete Maravich autobiography Pistol Pete Heir to a Dream - Forward:
When I was approached to tell my life story, at first I was apprehensive. Old wounds, now healed, would need to be reopened to reveal the truth about past choices. It meant dropping the guarded fortress I had built around myself.
I didn't want to write a book that would candy coat what I've experienced; instead, I wished to communicate my personal struggle to find the elusive inner peace and happiness that seemed almost impossible in my life.
That wish may sound strange coming from "Pistol Pete." I've had all the things this life has to offer in the way of "happiness." I've had world fame, and my name is in the record books. I've had money, cars, and honorary admiral status in the Navy, just to name a few.
Despite all the material wealth and acclaim, however, I am able now to write this book only because I was finally rescued from my self-destructive tendencies. Without a doubt my life was spared several times in the past, such as the night I was beaten, had a gun placed to my mouth, and was told I was about to die. Or the night I drove across a bridge at 145 miles an hour, contemplating suicide.
As a child I chose a road I thought would bring me fame, fortune, success, and ultimately, happiness. Basketball was my dream, a dream handed down to me from my father.
Press Maravich had a dream of what basketball and basketball players could become one day, and his greatest desire was to help me become the realization of his vision. He gave to me his years of knowledge and experience, as well as the ultimate gift - a life dedicated to helping me become the best basketball player I could possibly be.
To tell my life story is to tell my father's story, the two are so interwoven. My dad handed me his legacy, and because he did I am his Heir to a Dream.

Pistol PEte: Heir to a Dream
"The Pistol" Had It All-But Having It All Wasn't Enough
"The Pistol" was a novelty turned phenomenon. Never failing to draw a crowd, "Pistol Pete" was a memorable sight on the basketball court with his forever-shaggy hair and floppy white socks. But no one could shoot the basketball like coach Press Maravich's controversial son. No one in high school. No one in college. No one in the NBA. And in the process, Hall-of-Famer Pete Maravich revolutionized the tall man's game.
A three-time All-American at LSU, Maravich still holds a host of NCAA scoring records, including highest average in a season (44.5), highest average per game in a career (44.2), most points scored in a season (1381), and most points scored in a career (3667). And in an NBA career cut short by injury, he's still in the record books in a number of offensive categories from play with the Atlanta Hawks, the New Orleans and Utah Jazz, and the Boston Celtics.
Pistol Pete: Heir to a Dream also chronicles a more sinister side to the fame-a life nearly shattered by personal tragedy and alcoholism. It's a story where the off-court battles were sometimes more spectacular than the contest on the boards.
It's a story of rebellion and despair and-ultimately-triumph.
